Campus Recreation Center
DATE: 2012/02-2012/06
PROJECT TYPE: Public Building
BUILDING STATUS: Unconstructed
Located within the Sky-City Campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University, this design is to provide students with a vibrant recreational complex. The facility includes a large indoor playground, an expansive student restaurant, and numerous recreational classrooms, such as dance studios, music rooms, and art spaces, offering students a place to relax and enjoy their leisure time.
To meet the functional needs of both the indoor playground and the student restaurant, the design incorporates a three-level transparent space connected by a central stairway and dynamic lobby structure. This adaptable space links various functions and supports a wide range of activities and circulation flows. Responding to the site’s natural elevation changes, the playground and restaurant are positioned on separate levels, allowing students to easily access both areas.
The central public space, characterized by a grand stairway and a prominent steel louver structure, fosters a sense of “seeing and being seen.” This design encourages interaction between the various activities taking place throughout space, activating the environment with dynamic visual connections.”
